The Library is aware that some users are experiencing difficulty accessing some of the Library's databases, especially when using Chrome.

If you see the error message: "This site can’t provide a secure connection ezproxy.purchase.edu sent an invalid response. ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR" please try one of the steps below:

  1. Clear your cache/history (Directions: ChromeFirefoxSafari)
  2. Use an incognito/private browsing window/tab (Directions: ChromeFirefoxSafari)
  3. Try a browser you haven’t used before. We recommend Firefox, as fewer users are getting this security error with Firefox
  4. Go to the URL bar and change the ezproxy prefix (everything before the second https/http) to:
    http://ezproxy.purchase.edu/login?url=

If you have a URL with prefixes http://ezproxy.purchase.edu:2048/login?url= or http://ezproxy.purchase.edu:8443/login?url=  these are older prefixes and should be changed to the new one above.

If this does not resolve the problem, please contact EResources Librarian Carrie Marten (Carrie.Marten@purchase.edu) or CTS (helpdesk@purchase.edu or via Zoom).

Please include the following information when you report the problem to better help us troubleshoot:

  • Your name and email
  • What browser you were using
  • What type of operating system you are using (i.e. Mac vs. Windows)
  • Which database or library resource you were trying to access
  • A screenshot of the error message (or at least copy the text of the error message)

Please see our FAQ on accessing databases from off-campus for more information.
